New Delhi: Yashasvi Jaiswal, the talented Mumbai batsman, has credited Rahul Dravid for being a major source of inspiration in his cricketing journey. Following his impressive performance in the IPL 2023, Jaiswal has earned a spot in the India Test squad for the upcoming Caribbean tour.

Jaiswal revealed that he received a message from Rahul Dravid, expressing his best wishes after his selection. The young cricketer has often turned to Dravid for guidance on his batting technique.

Their association dates back to the Under-19 World Cup in 2020 when Jaiswal had the opportunity to learn from Dravid at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Under Dravid’s tutelage, Jaiswal gained valuable insights and tips before representing India in the tournament held in South Africa.

Since then, Jaiswal’s cricketing career has progressed significantly. He was awarded the Player of the Series title in the Under-19 World Cup after scoring 400 runs at an impressive average of 133.33, along with three wickets. Despite his valiant efforts, India narrowly lost the final to Bangladesh.

Now, at the age of 21, Jaiswal is set to fulfill his long-held dream of wearing the coveted India Test whites. The selectors and team management have identified him as a potential replacement for Cheteshwar Pujara at the crucial number 3 position.

The Test series against the West Indies, comprising two matches, will commence on July 12 at Windsor Park in Dominica.

Jaiswal’s selection in the Test squad is a result of his outstanding performance in the IPL 2023. He emerged as the tournament’s fifth-highest run-scorer, accumulating 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48.08, including one century and five fifties.

Sharing his thoughts on Dravid’s mentorship, Jaiswal expressed his gratitude for the invaluable advice he has received. One particular tip that has helped him immensely is to “watch the ball closely.” Dravid’s emphasis on treating each ball as important and focusing on one ball at a time has played a significant role in Jaiswal’s development as a cricketer.

Yashasvi Jaiswal firmly believes that his game has improved significantly under the guidance of Rahul Dravid, whom he considers a great mentor. As he prepares for his Test debut, Jaiswal looks forward to showcasing his skills and contributing to the Indian cricket team’s success.
